Tormentum dark sorrow game8/5/2023 ![]() The game’s overall look and feel was strongly influenced by the Dark Seed videogame series, credits to the same artist H.R. The game has 75 hand-painted stages with over a hundred additional screens.įor players who are interested about the origin and inspiration behind the artwork, those were the works of painters H.R. Even with just screenshots of the game and the trailer, one can say that the developers invested so much into beautifying this game. Yes, the number one feature that draws people into wanting to play this game is the artwork. As I went through the list of games, TORMENTUM – Dark Sorrow, developed by OhNoo Studio, “caught my eye”. But as a casual gamer, I often find myself stumbling upon the multitude of choices among the games during this Indie-Gaming era. The main focus is on your cloaked hero and what he must go through to find the place in his dreams. This review is running a bit late since the game’s release last March 4, 2015. There is a deep and rich past to the place your Hero finds himself, but you only get small pieces of it through scraps of paper found laying around, and it seems just as interesting at the characters who live there. ![]() Everyone feels as if they had a full background to them, but you're only getting a small taste of their lives. This world is filled with interesting characters, both in design and personality. you have to use your logic or the careful hints around the place to figure them out. Besides the moral choices there are some other puzzles to be seen, like placing the gears in the right spot to get the machine going, or sliding blocks around to complete a picture. Still, it's nice to see the choice is given to you, since there are other points within the game where you'll wish you could have been part of the decision making. In most cases, you'll only pick the wrong one if you accidentally misread the symbols. There are quite a few moral decisions to make in this game, but only one or two come with moral ambiguity. Granted all the artwork is morbid and gives you a shiver in your spine, but an enjoyable kind of shiver. Tormentum: Dark Sorrows will feel like at times it was just made to show off their great talent in the art department and honestly they do have great talent so you'll find yourself not minding one bit. This makes gameplay simple so you can really just enjoy the story, the art, and the amazing music, especially the track that plays during credits. In order to use items you must click on your pack, click on the object to select and then click on what you use to use it on or give it to. Other wise you'll just get a description. If you can pick it up then it will be done so when you click on it. If you can use it or pick it up, your cursor will change into a skeleton hand. ![]() Since in this game you don't move freely around the screen, just click on the spots you're interested in. All places you can go are marked with a white simplistic arrow that fades in and out. The only side-effect from this is it can be hard to see the exits on the screen. Even in the background there is something there that makes you feel unsettled. While nothing in the content really makes it a horror title, there is some very disturbing imagery. The artwork is what really sells this game.

Camera bokeh8/5/2023 ![]() Everything in the shot that is the same distance from the camera as the subject will also be in focus. When you point your camera at a subject, you will usually focus on that subject. The more out of focus the elements are, the greater the bokeh effect.įirst, let’s go over a quick overview of focus and how it works in photography. ![]() Since bokeh appears in the out of focus parts of the image, creating bokeh just requires you to have parts of the image which are out of focus. There’s also a video here where you can hear the word being pronounced. The pronunciation in English is quite simple, it’s two syllables, the first syllable sounding like “boh” and the second like “ke” as in Kennedy. “Bo” is pronounced how you would say the start of bone, and “Ke” is pronouced how you would start Kenneth. In fact, there is much discussion online regarding how to properly pronounce the word bokeh, with suggestions including bo-key, boh-key and bo-kay.Īccording to Wikipedia, Mike Johnson (the editor who popularized the term) has said the correct pronunciation is bo-key. In terms of the pronunciation, there are a variety of thoughts on the subject. It has also been spelt as “boke”, but these days the most common spelling in English is “bokeh”. Many books and articles on photography started to use the term shortly afterwards. The term became popular in English photography terminology in 1997, when it was used in a photography magazine, and the editor decided to alter the spelling of the word from “boke” to “bokeh” to be closer to the pronunciation. The term “bokeh” originates from the Japanese word “boke”, which translates to blur, as well as the Japanese term “boke-aji”, which translates to blur quality. The other option would be to have the whole image sharp and in focus, but this would not isolate and highlight the subject quite so well. However, if you can achieve both a sharp image, and a pleasing look to the out of focus parts, then this can result in a more pleasing image overall. In my shot above, if I had blurred out the main subject rather than the background, then the image above wouldn’t work. Well, of course, the subject being in focus and the image being nicely composed are of course important, unless you are doing more abstract photography. Now, you might be wondering why you would care about the parts of the image which are out of focus – surely it’s the elements which are in focus which matter? However, bokeh actually refers to the look of all the out of focus areas, whether they form shapes or not. When people refer to bokeh, they are most commonly thinking of these blurred circular shapes. ![]() ![]() In the shot above, the bokeh is particularly apparent in the string of yellow lights in the top left corner, which have become circular blobs, as well as the white fairy lights in front of and behind the subject (relative to the camera). It is a result of how the light passing through the lens interacts with the various glass elements, as well as the aperture inside the lens. Some of which are considered to be more pleasing than others, depending on who you ask!īokeh is caused due to an optical effect that depends on the lens. These can vary from precise geometrical shapes with distinct edges through to blurry circles. Usually, bokeh appears as small rounded shapes in the out of focus part of the image, although different lenses produce different bokeh styles. The game has no Experience Points, your power level (and thus what areas the game will allow you into) is determined purely by the equipment you have. Enemies can dish out large amounts of damage if their attacks hit you and bosses require a fair amount of teamwork. Despite looking very peaceful and simple at first glance, the game can be rather difficult, especially in later parts of the game. Players can adventure through the clockworks on their own or join a team of up to 4 people. Gameplay is a semi-top-down Hack and Slash mixed with a Shoot 'Em Up in the form of a Dungeon Crawler, and it's often compared to the 2D The Legend of Zelda games. As a Spiral Knight equipped with swords, guns, or bombs, you must join up with other players to fight off the many enemies that would see your kind wiped off the planet and make your way down to the glowing core of the planet: an energy source powerful enough to restart their space ship. Just below the surface is a huge steampunk dungeon full of monsters, traps, whirling gears and energy fields. The members of an unidentifiable race have crash-landed on the hostile planet Cradle. This is the first model that puts photomineralization rates in the context of a flowing temperate river network. In this paper, we build a model for the river sections of temperate Connecticut River Watershed, which calculates photomineralization for possible river flow conditions, dissolved organic carbon concentrations, and seasons, and compares the size of the sunlight-driven breakdown of dissolved organic carbon to the amount of dissolved organic carbon in the river. Sunlight shining into rivers can cause these organic molecules to break down in a process called photomineralization, but it is not clear if this process is important compared to the total amount of organic carbon that travels through rivers every day. Within rivers, dissolved organic carbon molecules can be broken down into inorganic carbon molecules, including the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. Rivers are an important part of the carbon cycle, moving carbon compounds from land to the ocean. In median flows and mean light intensities, for an average watershed travel distance, 3%–5% of the DOC fluxes are eliminated, indicating that photomineralization is a minor DOC sink in temperate rivers. We find that relative photomineralization fluxes are highest in summer drought conditions in low order streams. We calculate DOC elimination by photomineralization relative to DOC fluxes through individual stream reaches as well as the entire riverine portion of the CRW. Even for high photomineralization fluxes, corresponding photomineralization uptake velocities are typically at least an order of magnitude smaller than those reported for other instream processes. Our model predicts average daily areal photomineralization rates ranging from 1.16 mg-C m −2 day −1 in low flow river reaches in the winter, to 18.33 mg-C m −2 day −1 in high flow river reaches during the summer. Our model quantifies reaction rates and transport drivers within the river reaches for the ranges of flow conditions, incoming solar irradiance, and canopy cover shading observed throughout the year. We test the hypothesis that photomineralization is a negligible DOC sink across all reaches and flow conditions relative to DOC fluxes. ![]() In this study, we construct a model representing over 75,000 river reaches in the Connecticut River Watershed (CRW), USA, to calculate spectrally resolved photomineralization. The importance of complete photooxidation, or photomineralization, as a sink for DOC remains unclear in temperate rivers, as most estimates are restricted to lakes, high latitude rivers, and coastal river plumes. Sunlight can oxidize dissolved organic carbon (DOC) to dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in freshwaters.
